The eternal problem of noise in oil-immersed brakes.
If there is one recurring problem in the world of heavy machinery lubrication, it is noise in oil-immersed brake systems. In this edition, we are going to deal with the case of a CASE 580 SuperR Series 2 Backhoe bought new by a company in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid) and handled by a professional with more than 20 years of experience to back him up, José Antonio Sáez.
‘From the very first day that it was delivered, the machine made a loud squeaking sound, it was as if the rear braking system was rubbing without any lubrication,’ José Antonio told us. To begin with, official service personnel came to see the machine because it was still covered by its warranty.
Originally, the manufacturer provided these systems with their own brand of lubricant, to which an amount of anti-friction additive was added to avoid these noises. Following several oil changes and testing with various proportions of the additive, the metal sound of the pistons against the brake discs never completely went away.
Victor Alonso, from VICMAQ, an OLIPES partner for heavy machinery, became aware of the problem and offered to trial a solution: MAXITRACTOR 10W30 FS, which incorporates an anti-friction additive among its ingredients for oil-immersed brakes..
